About 42hacks

“Many millions of years ago a race of hyper-intelligent pan-dimensional beings got so fed up with the constant bickering about the meaning of life that they commissioned two of their brightest and best to design and build a stupendous supercomputer to calculate the answer to life, the universe and everything.”

“42” comes from Douglas Adams's 1979 novel, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy where 42 is the answer to the ultimate question of life, the universe, and everything, calculated by an enormous supercomputer named Deep Thought over a period of 7.5 million years.

42hacks uses this number in a geeky reference to this book. With this, we also state our ambitious goal, to provide answers and solutions to ultimate questions.

We are planning to do 42 iterations of our hacks with a different topic of climate change each. There will be energy, soil, oceans, deforestation, plastics, and many more.

“Hacks” is used as a term because a hackathon defines a time-boxed gathering of people to produce ready to use outcomes. Although hackathons got popularized in the software scene, we understand them more broadly. It's about all solutions (technical, behavioral, educational, narrational,... )

What is the legal form of 42hacks?

Currently 42hacks is not a registered entity but an initiative to gather people that care about the planet earth. However, the target is to register it in a form that allows for collective ownership and every member will be part of it. 42hacks is a non profit organization.
